Locations

The Exam Schedule lists the locations in which DEP conducts operator certification exams. Please visit the individual exam pages for more information about exam content, exam terms and conditions, and other guidelines. If you require special accommodations due to a chronic illness, hearing or visual impairment, please contact the exam provider directly and make sure to submit a thorough documentation when you register.


The Faculty Dashboard in Workday has the option of "View My Teaching Schedule" that allows faculty to find their exam schedules. In addition the Registrar's Office has a list of exam times for classes where an exam is required by NYSED regulations. For evening classes exams, they are scheduled at the normal class time during the week of exams.

Registration

Students are encouraged to look up the exam schedule online. However it is crucial to note that the final exam schedule could alter at any moment. Students should therefore consult their instructors to confirm the exact time and date of their test. Students should also print out the official list of questions to bring to their exam.

In addition to the exam schedule, students must familiarize themselves with the exam guidelines, terms and conditions. They are available on the individual exam pages. After registering, students acknowledge that they have read and agree to these terms and conditions.

Exam sites try their best to accommodate those with special requirements. The nature and the extent of these needs should be noted on the registration and confirmed by a medical attestation. In addition, the exam locations must respect confidentiality and be maintained.

If students are scheduled to take three exams on the same day, they should contact their department or instructor to schedule a make-up test. It is possible to take three examinations on the same day. However, this can cause a lot of stress and impact the quality of the exam. The instructor may not be able give a makeup test on another day.

Before taking the test, students must prepare by studying the syllabus and practicing their German skills. The exam is a paper-based test that tests the ability to speak, read, and write in German. The results of the examination are presented using a scale ranging from A1 to C2. Students who pass the test are awarded an Goethe-Zertifikat. The certificate confirms that the student has reached language level A1. This level is the first level of the six-level scale of competency set out in the Common European Framework of Reference for Foreign Languages. The test is free. Students must bring a valid government-issued ID to the test. Students who do not have a valid picture identification will be disqualified.

Fees

You'll need to pay an examination fee if you wish to receive the Goethe-Zertifikat (start German 1) after you have completed your Elan Academy studies. This is in addition to the course fee.

Practice assessments give you an overview of the format of the questions, their wording and the difficulty of the questions on the test. They help you assess your knowledge, identify areas of weakness and increase your chances of passing the test.

Please be aware that the exam fee is non-refundable. Exam results are only electronically sent, not via phone.
